About me

My name is Mikuláš Netík. I was born in 1995 in Brno, the Czech Republic, into a family of woodcarvers. After graduating from a grammar school in Šlapanice, I first studied for a bachelor’s degree in History and English Language and Literature, and then a master’s degree in History with a focus on the Middle Ages and English Translation at Masaryk University in Brno. After getting a taste of Germany, specifically Constance on the picturesque Lake Constance, as part of the Erasmus+ program during my master’s studies, I traveled beyond our western borders again during my doctoral studies, which I completed in a cotutelle program at both Masaryk University and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich. During my doctoral studies, in addition to Munich and the Bavarian mountains, I also grew fond of the colourful Berlin, where I also spent several months.

My interests and studies have led me to work as a historian and translator, but that’s not all. Since childhood, I have also been involved in woodcarving craft, and, later, perhaps even art, which has also been my profession since around 2015.

In addition to what I do for a living, I am also interested in culture and public affairs in general, as well as Czech, German, and international politics. I like sports, reading, and occasionally speaking a few words of German and English. I can be found in Brno, a Renaissance town of Slavonice, Germany, a galaxy far, far away, or on my way there and back again.
